Lifelong Careers
A professional mapping out possible routes

ABOUT US · MY Lifelong Careers → My DISHA · Scenario simulator

One career, three ways in.

Pick a career and compare the degree, direct-work and vocational routes exactly as the owned career brief describes them — where the brief is silent, the column says so.

Pick a career above to see the three routes side by side — degree, straight to work, vocational.

How to read the three routes.

Owned career briefLegacy UK salary bandsPlanning aid — not a guarantee

The Scenario Simulator helps you explore alternative routes toward a career goal — comparing education, direct work and vocational pathways. It is a planning aid, not a financial, admissions, immigration or employment guarantee.

Start with a goal

Select a career from the Careers Library, or compare a shortlist if the goal is still emerging. The assumptions are the ones the owned career brief records — shown as stated, revisable when the record is.

Build alternative routes

The three columns are the routes the record documents: a degree pathway, going straight to work with upskilling, and vocational training. Unsupported routes are never shown as assured options — where the brief is silent, the column says so.

Learning and experience

Each route describes its theoretical foundations, practical training and credentials as the record states them. Quality and recognition depend on provider and participation — check providers before you commit.

Readiness and skills

Milestones map to the capabilities in the career's own rubric — practise them in the Practice Lab. Course completion alone is not represented as proof of competence; demonstrable evidence is what counts.

Uncertainty and sensitivity

Routes carry dependencies — admission, local availability, licensing, hiring cycles and resources. There is no false precision and no employment probability: the page shows what the record states, and labels what it doesn't.

Compare scenarios

The columns use consistent dimensions — time-to-entry, cost, learning mode, credentials and flexibility as documented. Unknowns are highlighted alongside trade-offs rather than smoothed over.

Timeline, costs and your plan

Dated week-by-week milestones live in the Transition Plan; costed tuition arithmetic against stated IPEDS figures lives in the Affordability Planner; and a scenario you like becomes a five-step plan in the Career Plan. For consequential choices, verify with counsellors, admissions offices, training providers or licensing authorities — this page is decision support, not professional advice.

How this works.

01

Pick the career you're weighing — the simulator reads the three route descriptions from Lifelong Careers's owned career brief.

02

Compare the degree, direct-work and vocational routes side by side, each fact carrying its source line.

03

Follow the cross-links: cost the degree route, browse live vacancies for the work route, or practise vocational skills in the Practice Lab.

Stated plainly — what this doesn't do

  • — The three routes come from the owned brief only — where the record is silent, the column says so rather than inventing an answer.
  • — Salary notes, where present, are legacy UK reference bands — labelled as such, not current market data.
  • — Registry-only careers (no full encyclopedia entry yet) show honest placeholders — stated as such, never filled in.

Questions people ask.

Why does a route say 'not described'?

Because the brief genuinely doesn't describe it for that career. Rather than invent a plausible-sounding route, the column stays empty and says why.

Which route is 'best'?

The simulator doesn't score routes — it lays out what the record states so you can weigh cost, speed and fit with real facts.

What if my career has no route content at all?

Some careers are registry classification entries without a full brief yet — the page says so plainly instead of filling the silence.

Three doors, one record.

However you go in, the preparation routes and funding sit in Course Discovery — and the cost math in the Affordability Planner.
